Humble the Great may be known by oxymoron, but there’s little allegory behind the artist. Although his talents run across numerous lanes – a producer, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and singer/songwriter – Humble speaks from, and creates with, a true sense of authenticity rare to see in this age of fake news and the ultrasocial. Defying genre lines with a spiky yet soulful slice of R&B, his music leads with candor and is laced together by the humour of someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously. 

It wasn’t until the creation of his debut EP, every night was the same, that Humble began to warm up to the idea of a project where he is as integral upfront as he is behind the track. “I put one of the songs, “pink dress,” on TikTok and next thing I know I was shooting music videos and found myself loving that performance side.” The record recalls the emotional milieu of processing a break-up and oozes a steely funk throughout, from the smooth, soul-inflected beat of “circles,” to the heart-bearing guitar line ushering in layers of introspection on “dreams.” Humble finds his music connects the best when “being my most authentic self… It’s always a stream of consciousness; whenever I try and predict how they’ll make people feel, it ends up going to shit. Whenever I try manufacturing it, it feels forced.”

Citing contemporaries like Anderson .Paak and Dijon as key inspirations behind his own artistry, Humble is, much like his namesake, generous in giving respect to his influences and wider team as hugely constructive in his music making. Indeed, collaboration is a key fixture of every night was the same, featuring vignettes from joe unknown, Kamal., and Amie Blu. Not only does this network emphasise Humble as an artist on the pulse of the up-and-coming crop of British talent brimming with potentiality, but he also takes great pride in working alongside his best friends Wormy and Hargs. “I think it’s easy to get in your own head about finding people that can compliment your sound, but it’s nice to have people who you trust who can take over and carry you forward.”
