Curated by artist Geumhyung Jeong, this film programme accompanies the artist’s solo exhibition Under Construction.
The trio of commercial movies pull the threads of horror, humour and erotics within Jeong’s work. Each film was selected by the artist for the idiosyncratic way it resonates her artistic practice: her ‘Frankenstein moments’ bringing to life the robotic bodies in the current exhibition, the process of drilling into (fake) bone like the maniacal Dr. Giggles, and the desire to control mannequins in her early work that was as unpredictable as the twists in Love Object. The programme concludes with a special screening of a selection of the artist own short films from 2011 and 2020.

Frankenstein
Very loosely based on Mary Shelley's classic novel of the same name, James Whale’s iconic 1931 horror film portrays a scientist who assembles a living being from parts of exhumed corpses.

Dr. Giggles
Manny Coto’s 1992 slasher film portrays an asylum escapee arriving to the town where his mass-murderer father was killed and soon starts on a spree of his own.

Love Object
In conjunction with her exhibition, this 2003 horror film explores animate and inanimate objectification through a relationship with a jealous sex doll.
